Job Description

We are looking to recruit a locally based Electrical Technician who will support the safe and efficient operation of the Bermuda Depot by assisting with the movement, storage, testing and maintenance of cable plant, machinery and electrical equipment. The role will help maintain accurate depot records, ensure equipment remains operational and compliant, and support general site maintenance while working in line with safety procedures and operational requirements.
 
Please note: This role is based in Bermuda, and we will only consider candidates who currently reside in Bermuda.

Key Deliverables:

  • The safe execution of any duties that may be required in the storage, movement and disposal of submersible plant as required by cable maintenance and Marine Plant & Storage Facility, Bermuda agreements.
  • The operation and maintenance of cable machinery, lifting equipment and any other machinery associated with the movement of cable and plant as directed by the Bermuda Cable Technician or his/her Line Manager.
  • To provide holiday cover for the Bermuda Cable Technician and in such instances to work with temporary staff on cable tank or other related duties and to instruct and supervise such staff, to ensure safe and efficient practices are employed.
  • The Bermuda Depot can be called upon at any time throughout the year to complete cable operations; as such, depot staff may be called upon outside normal working hours and during public holidays.
  • To maintain all depot plant, machinery and associated areas in good clean working order and to ensure operational readiness at all required times.
  • Conduct Fibre Optic and Electrical tests of customer owned stock cables.
  • Maintain Site Electrical Equipment, ensuring it is safe to use and PAT Tested where applicable.
  • Maintain Electronic records and Databases associated with all depot activities.
  • To perform general work required for the site maintenance and not necessarily associated with the cable storage function.
  • Perform operations in accordance with the statutory Global Marine Systems Ltd safety policies or general procedures.
 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

    • Recognised training in the repair and maintenance of mechanical aids.
    • Basic Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Working Safely or equivalent).
    • Working knowledge of health & safety procedures, including risk assessments and safe systems of work.
    • Strong safety awareness and compliance mindset.
    • Manual Handling training. – under desired
    • Computing skill required in database management, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
    • The ability to communicate effectively with customers, ships personnel and contract staff.
    • Appropriate qualifications and experience in operation of lifting equipment and mechanical aids.
    • The ability to lead and work effectively as part of a small team.
    • Ability to lead or direct others during operations (Toolbox Talks, task coordination).
    • Willingness to work flexible hours / shift patterns to support 24/7 operations.
    • Good organisational skills and ability to work on one’s own initiative.
    • Ability to communicate using two-way radios.
    • Desire to progress qualifications and experience.
    • Able to travel to UK for training if required.

    Desired:

    • Advanced Electrical Installation (Level 3)
    • NTB Trade Test Certificate – Electrician
    • BS 2391 LEVEL 3 (City and Guilds) INSPECTION & TEST
    • BS 2377 LEVEL 3 (City and Guilds) EQUIPMENT TESTING
    • Fibre Optic Testing Experience
    • Bermuda Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) Certificate
    • Working at Heights Certification
    • Manual Handling Certificate
    • Lock‑Out Tag‑Out (LOTO) / Electrical Safety Awareness

    Location:  On-site 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) at Bermuda Depot. This role will require occasional evening and weekend shifts paid with overtime for any additional hours worked.
