Job Description

Businexcellent opportunity to join OceanIQ as a GIS Officer.  OceanIQ deliver industry-leading subsea cable GIS data, route engineering, permitting and survey services for subsea cable projects worldwide. OceanIQ are part of the Global Marine Group.

The GIS Data Officer will work as part of the GIS and Charting team to assist with the updating and management of our various submarine cable related databases.

The role involves taking raw data from various formats, compiling, checking and processing the data into our corporate GIS.  An excellent attention to detail, methodical approach and ability to work as part of a team are essential requirements. Providing support for cable route studies and cable permit needs may be required from time to time as part of the role.

The role requires either a GIS/survey qualification or relevant GIS work based experience.

Key Deliverables:

  • Compilation and data input of raw geographic data files from numerous sources for inclusion in GIS databases.
  • Operation of GIS software.
  • Updating of GIS databases.
  • Produce project related maps and charts.
  • Use of submarine cable repair reports to update GIS records.
  • Provide ad hoc support to the cable route engineering and permitting department.
 

 


    Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    Required

    • Qualification in suitable GIS course or a course with substantial GIS content e.g. Geography or surveying.
    • Experience of using GIS software like ArcGIS, GeoMedia, QGIS or similar.
    • Familiarity with databases, data processing and data management.
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Confident at compiling written reports.
    • Excellent team player.

    Ideal

    • Marine GIS experience.
    • Experience of building ArcGIS online sites.
    • Understanding of the submarine cable industry.
    • A willingness to embrace new ways of working.
    • An aggressive spotter of issues and solutions to problems.
    This role will be based in Chelmsford Head Office 3 days a week, 2 days working from home.
