About:  Global Marine Group is a leading independent provider of submarine cable solutions offering a broad range of services including consultancy, installation and maintenance covering the lifespan of a submarine cable system and delivered to customers worldwide. 

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head of Security Networks with a proven background in the marine industry working for the CISO. This is a hands-on technical role involving extensive worldwide travel with extensive time spent overseas.  When not working overseas attendance is mandatory to attend Chelmsford, Head Office 4-5 days a week.  Due to the nature of the role and the business, this role requires 24/7/365 availability.  The IT department follows a role-based structure, meaning this role does not include any direct reports.

Purpose: 

You will be responsible for technical availability of all networks and servers both cloud based and locally based.  You are expected to investigate, fought resolution, technical build all of the above devices. Monitor and maintain the Microsoft based system into all service and technology driven solutions.  Supporting the CISO as required to provide a 24/7/365 IT service provisionTo be comfortable with contributing towards the strategic direction of the business to achieve ambitious business plans, goals and objectives.  Will require proven experience in a global environment, applying in-depth technical, hands-on knowledge.

Key Deliverables:

  • Strong leadership to maintain and support onshore and offshore IT systems 24/7/365 for cloud and client server.
  • Networking and security experience in firewall optimisation, Cisco and Watchguard protocols.
  • Maintain and implement high quality operational standards, processes and procedures.
  • Diagnose and solve technical problems, frequently under time constraints and business pressure.
  • Adherence to strict budget requirements and identifying cost saving opportunities across the Group.
  • Assisting in the development of business cases to implement new initiatives, along with driving, and supporting the team during large projects.
  • Ability to break down organisational silo’s by removing barriers, automating processes and workflows.
  • To advise on best IT practices and deliverables through use of ITIL and other frameworks.
  • Maintain and implement high quality operational standards, processes, and procedures.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • At least 10 years+ of IT experience in complex infrastructure environments.
  • Must have marine and offshore experience.
  • Certified Microsoft qualifications.
  • Practical working knowledge of:
  • Microsoft technologies
  • Networking protocols for ERP systems
  • Security Network design and configuration
  • Identity Management incl Active Directory, Azure AD, 2FA
  • Operating systems including all Server versions and Desktop
  • Extensive travel worldwide and to vessels.
  • Working Knowledge of configuring ERP systems.
  • Passion for technology and the ability to pick up new technical skills fast.
  • Hands on experience of client server upgrades from solution selection, design, project planning and implementation.
  • Excellent communicator and ability to manage, develop and maintain strong trustworthy internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Ability to manage escalations of critical technical issues through to timely resolution.
  • Self-starter and excellent organisational skills. Able to think outside the box to create innovative solutions.

  • Exposure to AI from a security and implementation perspective.
