Job Description

The Head of Fleet will assist the Director, Fleet Operations to lead the Fleet Management Team responsible for the fleet of vessels assigned to them and ensure that the vessels are operated to the highest standard, in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and in accordance with the company standards and policies, in the most cost-effective way, ensuring total end user satisfaction at all times.

The Head of Fleet will ensure that the entire fleet is proactively managed safely and efficiently maintained in accordance with IMO Requirements, Flag State and Classification Rules, together with Company policies and procedures. Ensuring that all ship activities are conducted in line with ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), ISO 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety), ISM Code for (International Safety Management Code), and the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code).

Key Deliverables:

    • Be able to deputise for the Director, Fleet Operations during leave, sickness and high workload situations or as required by the Director, Fleet Operations

    • To act as Deputy DPA and Deputy CSO or where appropriate delegation to a suitably qualified subordinate.

    • Be responsible and accountable for control and management of all company owned and managed vessels, chartered vessels, and associated equipment, as allocated by the Director, Fleet Operations ensuring the Director is kept fully informed of all aspects of fleet operations that would affect business capability.

      • Prepare and monitor weekly reports to the Director, Fleet Operations

      • Prepare monthly Operational Management Meeting Presentations

    • To ensure compliance with appropriate legislation and continuation of independent certification to International Accreditation Standards including the International Safety Management (ISM) code

    • Effective implementation of the Ship Management procedures within the Company Integrated Management System (IMS), To verify Ship Management procedures are adhered to by arranging where required vessel visits, inspections, technical and safety audits, reporting and introduce control methods and measures where required.

    • Monitor the management of the circulation of important findings from sub-standard conditions and damages within the fleet of owned, managed and chartered fleet and initiate corrective measures where appropriate

    • To support the alignment of organisational culture to live corporate values through excellence in communication across fleet and office

    • Effectively/Actually managing the Fleet Management Team to ensure its efficiency in the provision of the Management Services. This will include the Fleet Technical Team, Dry-Docking Team, Marine and Manning Teams.

    • Hold regular team briefings, meetings and reporting, commitment and objectives.

    • Be accountable for ongoing budget management of the fleet, regularly reporting progress to the Director, Fleet Operations.

    • Responsible for the effective line and performance management of all direct reports, as well as their motivation and development.

    • Encouraging team members to improve their knowledge, skills and training.

    • Responsible for preparing, analysing and scrutinising the Fleet Budgets before presenting them to the Director, Fleet Operations.

    • Ensuring that adequate resources and shore based support are applied, as required

      • Implements the relevant organization for this purpose and adapts this organization to the new requirements according to the company activities and regulations.

    • Review and approval of the Dry-docking specifications and any other major repair works prior to tendering.

    • Approving orders, invoices and payments up to limit of authorization

    • Oversight but not management of the Emergency Response Team

    • Validation of the core manning and the shipboard working organization

    • Validation of senior officers planning (appointment, promotion…)

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Required:

  • Experience in working with an enhanced RQHSE function 
  • At least 5 Years Sea-going experience in a senior role, or equivalent experience in a shore-based position in either an O&G, DP or cable lay industry
  • Previous experience leading a vessel management team in the maritime industry
  • Knowledge of maritime legislation
  • Good organisation and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Proven track record in managing large budgets
  • Ability to travel at short notice with a flexible and pro-active approach to work
  • Experience of quality management systems and audits
  • Experience working with DP2 vessels

Ideal:   

  • ISO/ISM Auditor accreditation an advantage
  • Familiarity with Dynamic Positioning Systems, submersible vehicles, and cable working machinery and equipment
  • Experience is a similar role in the industry
  • Appreciation of OVSMA
