Job Description


Manage geotechnical activities and projects within OceanIQ and execute each project to the high standards set in the Group`s Project Life Cycle and aligned with client expectation both internal and external. 


  • Manage project activities delivering geotechnical services to support internal customers Global Marine and Global Offshore as well as external customer stakeholders
  • Support Senior Geotechnical Engineer and project delivery teams to meet client’s needs with good commercial awareness, maintaining sound financial judgment, solid experience of production of project documents as well as programme management and control
  • Interpret and use offshore site investigation data and integrate results into the preparation and delivery of Cable Route Burial Assessments, Burial Assessment Studies and other feasibility studies
  • Carry out soil/cable interaction analyses, and support the associated engineering disciplines for cable / umbilical installation and stability analyses
  • Complete offshore trenching, seabed preparation, boulder clearance and rock dumping assessments
  • Understand the nature of the various geohazards affecting a site and evaluate their impact on the construction and installation process
  • Comply with Project Life Cycle for geotechnical elements
  • Promote OiQ at every opportunity in order to contribute to business unit financial targets
  • Proactively engage in product development initiative from investigation to adoption that address industry challenges overcoming customer issues using innovative thinking to optimise technical solutions
  • Keep abreast of marine industry news across all market sectors in order to foresee opportunities for OceanIQ
  • To actively suggest beneficial changes to the department or its processes or its procedures
  • Be able to present their work effectively to multi-disciplinary / multi-national teams and in front of clients
Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • A minimum of 3 years experience in geotechnical delivery and project management
  • Masters or Bachelors Degree in a Geoscience subject
  • Experience in marine geotechnical ground investigation tools and acquisition
  • Experience in marine geophysical acquisition
  • Demonstrable relevant working experience in the same or similar field of engineering
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Computer literate, with experience of using software for geotechnical analysis
  • An attention to detail as well as an analytical and logical approach
  • Ability to travel UK and overseas as project requirements dictate
  • Technical understanding of offshore installation processes, such as, permits and consents, survey, landfall works, cable installation, cable storage facilities, and vessel operations
  • Commercial experience of preparing and managing related budgets and contracts
  • An industry recognised project management qualification; e.g., APM, PRINCE2
  • An aggressive spotter of issues and solutions to problems
  • Ability to get others on side and behind you to get the results the department needs
  • Familiarity with offshore renewable, marine hydrographic, subsea telecoms and oil & gas sectors
  • Zeal in developing and implementing new ways of working to enhance productivity and create better products.

  • Understanding of clients’ needs and ability to suggest and apply “fit for purpose” solutions
