Job Description

Job Title:     Apprentice Production Engineer

This apprenticeship presents a unique opportunity to improve prototype products, so they are built efficiently and effectively in terms of cost and quality. During training you will be exposed to and gain knowledge of all areas of the business.

This opportunity is for an advanced apprenticeship with an expected duration of 48 months. Global Marine provide ongoing support to complete higher-level qualifications in engineering for the right candida

Key Deliverables:

  • Following the company induction and security briefing you will work in a variety of departments to gain knowledge of how the company operates, this will include:
  • Practical knowledge of hand tools and machine processes
  • Maintaining comprehensive records
  • Understand the ‘goods in’ and ‘goods out’ process
  • Gain knowledge of how products are planned and scheduled to be built
  • Assist in the build of products using a wide variety of techniques
  • Understand the health and safety implications of each task undertaken
  • Become involved in the production quality inspection process at component, sub-assembly and final product stages
  • Understand safe working practices, risk assessment, the basic principles of test, and investigative and fault finding techniques
  • Gain knowledge of the computerised drawing packages and assist in the production of design schemes through to releasing drawings

      Other information:

  • The company is located on the Railway Triangle Industrial Estate. You must be able to get yourself onsite, on time
  • Initially this programme will commence with 18 months (day release) off the job training at the PETA Engineering Training Centre in Havant to work towards the Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (Foundation Competence) during which you will complete the following foundation competence units:
  • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
  • Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
  • Using and communicating technical information
  • Conducting business improvement activities
  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques
  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment
  • Maintaining electrical equipment/systems
  • Maintaining electronic equipment/systems
  • General turning, milling and welding applications
  • Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system
  • Functional Skills maths and English (if required)
  • On completion of the above you will be further day released for the remainder of the apprenticeship to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) BTEC
  • At the same time you will undertake the agreed competency units in the workplace working to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)
Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Desired skills:

  • Effective communication skills to enable you to complete written and verbal reports
  • You must be able to explain problems and how they were dealt with clearly and concisely
  • Awareness of health and safety considerations
  • A tenacious attitude towards learning new skills
  •  You will need to be productive when working as part of a team and independently with minimum supervision

  • Personal qualities:

    You need to be focused, self-driven and possess a ‘can do’ attitude,

  • You must have a ‘continuous improvement’ mindset and a strong desire to develop high quality products
  • A methodical approach to problem solving and testing is required

    Qualifications required:

    Minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent (inc Maths, English, Science – preferably Physics) at Grade C (4) or above
