Job Description

Purpose:  An opportunity has arisen for a Legal Advisor to join the Global Marine Groups Legal and Contracts team, based in either Aberdeen or Chelmsford

Supporting a growing and international business, with the key focus on, (but not limited to) supporting the Global Offshore Business Unit. This role involves providing legal and contractual support to the bidding teams and other Stakeholders such as Procurement and Engineering teams across the Group. 

Principal Tasks

  • Providing contract management support and legal advice to internal stakeholders primarily the Global Offshore Business Unit commercial and management teams

  • Working closely with the commercial teams and other key stakeholders reviewing, advising, drafting and negotiating contractual terms and conditions, including and identifying key legal and commercial risks

  • Providing legal support to tender submissions in a timely manner

  • Supporting Procurement contracts, including engaging with suppliers and providing key flow - down terms from the head contract, negotiating high value, high risk subcontracts legal terms and preparing and maintaining a qualifications matrix to support discussions.  

  • Preparing commercial agreements including but not limited to bespoke contracts, confidentiality agreements, frame agreements, MOU’s

  • Familiar with the use of LOGIC contracts, FIDIC Contracts, NEC Contracts and alike.

  • Assisting with litigation, disputes and claims

  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory changes in law, assessing the impact on the business and advising appropriate actions.

  • To participate in Lessons Learnt activities as directed by Senior Management

  • Support other members of the Legal and Contacts team where necessary

  • To undertake other duties as may be reasonably required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Experience:
  • Must have a sound knowledge of contract and commercial law

  • 3 years working experience in a Legal and or Contracts Department, ideally within the fields of Offshore Oil and Gas, Energy, Renewables, Telecomm Cables

  • Excellent written, verbal and communication skills

  • Self-motivated and capable of using own initiative

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment and meeting tight deadlines

  • Strong organisational skills, punctual for meetings and can prioritise tasks

  • Flexible and able to work with a dynamic team of people

  • Qualifications:

  • Honours Degree in Law or similar subject, 2:1 Grade minimum essential

  • CIPS Level 5 desirable but not essential

  • English qualified solicitor desirable but not essential
