Survey and Route Engineer (Fixed Term 12 month contract)

Job Description


OceanIQ have a large submarine telecoms cable engineering project to deliver in 2021. The Survey and Route Engineer will primarily support Desk Top Study production and manage the cable route survey for this project. They will work with survey contractors, attending survey project meetings and representing Global Marine Group for survey related activities.

The role involves working with the route planning team to assist in the production of technical design studies that quantify potential risks to future submarine cable systems, using our corporate GIS and marine survey and cable data.

Many of the tasks and activities delivered by this role require specialist knowledge of marine cable installation.

Key Deliverables:

  • Assist in the preparation of Desk Top Study and other technical design studies
  • Management of marine survey contractors
  • Assessment of survey schedules
  • Attend survey related meetings, representing Global Marine Group
  • Assessment of marine survey data and reporting for use in cable routeing and burial analysis
  • Generation of cable route position lists and straight line diagrams
  • Present internally and externally on work undertaken in this role


Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Understanding of marine survey equipment and capabilities
  • Knowledge of how marine surveys are undertaken and planned
  • Suitable earth science degree (hydrographic surveying, marine geophysics)
  • Experience of using GIS (Intergraph GeoMedia/ESRI) software or equivalent
  • Computer literate, with experience of technical software programmes
  • An attention to detail and a logical approach
  • Knowledge of the offshore environment
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
