Job Description


This is a support role. The successful candidate will work with the Head of Fleet, Fleet Electrical Manager and Fleet Superintendents to provide overall responsibility for fleet electro technical matters. Accountable to the Fleet Electrical Manager for all electrical / electronic, navigation, communication and propulsion systems on all GMSL vessels as well as associated equipment, in accordance with company policies, procedures and relevant, legislation.

Duties are to be carried out to the highest standards and in the safest as well as most environmentally friendly manner giving due regard to cost effectiveness.


Key Deliverables:

  • Provide support in matters relating to Electrical and Electronic systems to the fleet.

  • Monitor and ensure that the Electrical Engineering discipline within the fleet is operated safely and in accordance with company policy, national and international legislation and best industry practice.

  • Ensure the Fleet Electrical Manager is kept fully informed of all aspects of assigned vessel operations with respect to electrical and electro technical matters that may affect operational capability or service delivery.

  • Responsible for the identification and following up for resolution, actual and potential problem areas in this specialist field taking into consideration a broader industry overview.

  • Coordination and management of information and instructions to Shipboard ETO’s.

  • Support Fleet Resourcing in respect to training requirements for Shipboard ETO’s.

  • Ensure that the relevant technical instructions, procedures and checklists of each company vessel are current and correct and are in line with best industry standards.

  • Undertaking appropriate development and training in all areas pertaining to this role.

  • Undertake the duties of Duty Superintendent as required as well as be available as a member of the Marine Operations Emergency Response Team.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Over 5 years Sea-going experience as an ETO or Electrical Officer

     or;   An HND or degree in electrical engineering.

  • Work placement with electro technical bias offshore.



  • Previous experience of working in an offshore environment on ships or offshore platforms.

  • Knowledge of shipboard systems including HV distribution systems.

  • An understanding of DP / FMEA protocol.

  • Knowledge of cable working operations.
